If you must use plastic bags, consider repurposing them to increase their useful life.
Those plastic bags that you get from the grocery store can be quite the nuisance, especially once you've removed all your groceries. Don't just throw your used bags away, though. Here is how you can reuse plastic bags:
Instructions
1. Bring your plastic bags with you to the grocery store on your next visit. Most of the plastic bags that you got from the grocery store during your last visit are not damaged and can be easily reused.
2. Use them as small garbage bags around your house. While this still is not an incredibly environmental solution, using your plastic bags as garbage bags will save you from having to buy as many actual garbage bags.
3. Use them to pick up animal waste. Simply stick your hand in the bag, pick up the waste and then turn the bag inside-out. Plastic bags are great for this and will keep your lawn clean.
4. Use your plastic bags to store belongings. Instead of simply having your stuff strewn about in your basement or attic, put those items in plastic bags. This will save you lots of room, especially when you do this with old clothes that you want to hang onto for sentimental purposes. Storing items in plastic bags will also help keep your belongings free of dust and dirt that can accumulate in storage.
5. Use plastic bags to thaw out meat. Place the meat that you wish to be thawed in a plastic bag before putting it on the counter. This will eliminate any mess that may come from thawing out meat.
