Remove The Windows Xp Connection Limit

Remove the Windows XP Connection Limit

The Windows XP service packs introduced TCP/IP restrictions intended to limit the spread of viruses and worms. These connection limits reduced the previously unlimited Windows XP connection limit to ten. This limitation can substantially reduce Internet connection speeds, especially in FTP and peer-to-peer networking situations. Removing these limitations is no easy task as the configuration is buried deep in the Windows XP operating system. The easiest way to remove the connection limit is to apply a patch that is available on many websites, but unfortunately, many viruses are passed through these patches and it is difficult to find the patch from a reliable source. As such, your best option is to modify the TCP/IP configuration file using a hex editor.

Instructions

1. Back up the file \"\"C:\\Windows\\system32\\drives\\tcpip.sys\" by copying it to your desktop.

2. Launch your Windows XP hex editor.

3. Open the \"tcpip.sys\" configuration file for editing. There are likely multiple TCP/IP configuration files so be sure to load the file located in \"C:\\Windows\\system32\\drives\\\" without quotations.

4. Find hex \"4F322.\" It should be populated with the value \"0a 00 00 00.\"

5. Change the hex value to \"00 00 0a 00.\"

6. Save the \"tcipip.sys\" configuration file. Your connection limit should now be lifted.
