Washington State Medicaid covers a variety of health care services for low-income residents. You can get coverage for maternity care, medical care, mental health treatment, dental and vision care for children, prescriptions, alcohol and drug treatment and more. Children may qualify for special Medicaid coverage, and the elderly who get Medicare benefits also may be eligible for supplemental Medicaid benefits.
Instructions
1. Take a prequalification quiz. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services has a six-question exam that you can take online at www.dshs.wa.gov/ESA/TEC. The answers given quickly allow you to sort through the various combination of limits on the state matrix to see if you qualify for Washington Medicaid.
2. Apply online for Washington Medicaid at https://fortress.wa.gov/dshs/f2esaapps/esaosa/. The application is available in other languages besides English, or you can print an application and fill it out. Once you submit Part One, the Department of Social and Health Services can begin their process of determining your eligibility.
3. Have an interview with a social worker at the Department of Health and Social Services. While not all of the Medicaid programs require an interview, it helps to talk to a real person who can show you possible ways to qualify for Medicaid if you are close to eligible but still over the income limits. The interviewer will also tell you if you need to provide additional information.
4. Submit any requested information. Make sure you submit the information as quickly as possible so that a decision can be made on your application. Do not submit original documents; make photocopies.
