Replace A Sony Vaio Screen

The screen on a laptop can be removed.

Sony Vaio laptops are known for their sleek LCD screens, which produce crystal clear images as long as they're kept in good condition. If one of these screens becomes damaged or breaks, replace it as soon as possible. If this is the case with your Vaio, you can opt to replace it yourself.

Instructions

1. Turn off your Sony Vaio, remove the power cord and slide the battery out of its compartment on the bottom of the computer. Make sure the LCD screen is fully open and easily accessible.

2. Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop off the rubber pads that cover the screws located on the plastic frame surrounding the LCD screen. Depending on your particular model Vaio, the amount of screws may vary.

3. Remove all screws from the frame surrounding the LCD screen.

4. Insert your fingers in the seam between the frame and LCD screen and work your way around until the frame separates from the screen.

5. Unplug the wires that connect at either end of the inverter board. The inverter board is a thin green circuit board located directly below the LCD screen.

6. Pull the screen away from the back housing of the computer and remove the screws on the metal brackets located on each of the two sides of the screen.

7. Unplug the thick ribbon cable from the back of the screen, slide the screen out of the brackets and remove it from the computer.

8. Fit a new screen in the computer and plug the ribbon cable into the port in the back of it. Then reassemble the screen in the reverse order you took it apart.
