Share Cricket Wireless Broadband

You can share the connection from a Cricket USB modem.

Sharing Cricket wireless broadband is useful if you pay for Cricket's mobile Internet service but have multiple computers with which you would like to share it. Thankfully, the networking applications provided in Microsoft Windows allow you to easily share the connection with other computers. Remember, when splitting a wireless broadband connection you may experience very slow download times depending on current network conditions and the number of computers using the connection. Whether you are connecting only two computers or a larger network, the pairing process is similar.

Instructions

1. Connect the Cricket modem. This terminal will become the host to which other computer(s) connect. If you have used the modem before, the connection should start automatically, and if you are using the modem for the first time, you will find the necessary installation software included with the modem. Once the Cricket modem shows that it is connected, load a webpage and verify connectivity.

2. Start the client computer. Once the host computer is successfully connected via Cricket, start the client computer, which will ultimately be connected to the host.

3. Configure network sharing on the host PC. Load the Network and Internet Connection settings menu in the Control Panel on the computer that is connected to the Cricket network. Right-click the wireless connection you want to share, which should be named "Cricket" or something similar. Under the "Properties" tab, select "Advanced Options" and choose the option that allows other computers to connect to the Internet via the host's Internet connection. After settings are changed, click "OK" to acknowledge them.

4. Enable sharing on the client PC. Load the Network and Internet Connection menu in the Control Panel. In the list of available networks, right-click on the "Local Area Connection" option and select "Properties." Under "General," check two options: the first is to allow a TCP/IP connection to be used and the second is to have the computer obtain an IP address automatically. After settings are updated, click "OK."

5. Complete the connection. Connect the client to the host computer via an Ethernet cable, Bluetooth network or wireless network depending on your computer's features. On the client computer, launch the Network and Internet Connection control panel and start the Connection Wizard. Choose the option to manually configure the connection. Select that you are using a broadband connection that is always active and click "Finish." Once Finish is clicked, the Cricket connection will be available on both devices. If additional devices must be added to the network, simply repeat Step 4.
