Arm Sling
Wearing a sling after shoulder-replacement surgery is usually part of a post-surgery rehabilitation program designed to quickly and effectively repair your shoulder. Putting on the sling can be a trying process, especially if you are in pain. While rehabilitating your shoulder, it is important to wear your sling as directed to speed up recovery time.
Instructions
1. Hold your injured arm at a 90-degree angle. You can usually do this by either resting it on a soft surface or holding it with your operational arm.
2. Slide your arm into the sling using your operational arm. If you are unable to do this yourself, you can have someone slide the sling on for you. Put on the sling by sliding it from your elbow to your wrist, in a front to back fashion. This is essential in order to provide adequate support for your elbow while you're wearing the sling.
3. Place the shoulder strap onto your operational shoulder. Do this by grabbing the shoulder strap of the sling and criss-crossing it to your uninjured shoulder. The end result should look similar to the image titled "Arm Sling." If there are other belts and buckles attached to your sling, please visit the link titled "Additional Sling Application" to see detailed picture descriptions of put on these types of slings.
