The Yamaha Motif synthesizer is a powerful, versatile synthesizer, featuring hundreds of preset voices that will allow a musician to create new voices, rhythms and samples and record a performance at the same time. The Motif can interface with a Macintosh or PC through USB or MIDI connections; the newest versions of Motifs have an mLan port for networking. With MIDI In, Out and Through, you can connect the Motif to other synthesizers. Playing basics are simple, but the more you play, the more you will want to experiment to discover all the possibilities the Motif has to offer.
Instructions
1. Plug in the Motif and turn it on using the red power button on the back of the synthesizer.
2. Select the sound you wish to use by pressing the "Voice" button on the front top right section of the Motif. To access one of the many piano voices, press "Pre---1," and then the "A" button. Change voices by either using the "Pre," number and letter buttons or by using the round data wheel next to the display window. There are 128 built in voices for each "Pre."
3. Use the Performance mode by pressing the "Performance" button under the "Mode" section next to the Voice buttons. In performance mode, you can play a solo along with any of the 128 pre-programmed accompaniment programs accessible by pressing the "User" buttons.
4. Use the "GM" button to access any one of the 128 General Midi sounds. General Midi will give you realistic string, brass and woodwind sounds as well as sounds any other networked synthesizer or computer music programs will recognize.
5. Control the volume of your performance by using the "Master Volume" button on the top front of the Motif.
6. Record your performance by using the built-in sequencer. Recording is similar to using a cassette tape recorder. The button with the red square is the record button, the "Stop" button has a black rectangle on it and the "Play" button has an arrow.
