Rocklahoma is dedicated to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Rock".
Rocklahoma -- also known as "Rock Fever Presents Rocklahoma" or "Rock Fever" -- is an annual hard rock music festival held over three days during May in Pryor, Oklahoma. The festival has attracted headliners over the years like Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, Skid Row, Anthrax and Thin Lizzy. While scoring a spot in the lineup is difficult, if you and your band go about pitching yourselves to the festival organizers and partners the right way it's not impossible. At the very least you will have networked with some important people in the industry and shown the initiative that is imperative to survival in the music scene.
Instructions
1. Go to the Rocklahoma website and call or email the festival organizers, "Catch the Fever". Obtain as many details as you can for the person who deals with band submissions for the festival including a contact name, postal address, an email address and a direct phone number.
2. Send a demo of your music to your contact. Also send a covering note with links to all of your social media sites including your Facebook fan page, your MySpace page, your YouTube channel and your Twitter account along with a list of any upcoming gigs. Invite the contact to come along to see your live show so you can prove you are worthy of a spot in the Rocklahoma festival lineup.
3. Follow up with your contact regularly. Calling and personally inviting the organizers and their staff to a gig is a nice touch and will also give you an excuse to track your progress. Use social media tools to your advantage by networking with both your contact and the company through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to develop a rapport. Be persistent but not incessant and maintain a friendly demeanor with every person you speak to, despite what they have to say.
