Logitech computer microphones are easy to install.
While Logitech creates a number computer microphones, they all require the same basic installation process. While the process differs depending on whether you have a USB mic or one that plugs into a microphone jack, both methods are fairly simple and shouldn't require more than 10 minutes for setup. Having a computer microphone will allow you to talk to people through your computer and record your voice.
Instructions
USB Microphone
1. Turn on your computer and let it completely load your operating system. If your microphone is still in the box, now would be a good time to remove it.
2. Plug your USB microphone into an open USB port on your computer. On laptops the USB ports are typically on the side or back of the computer. With a desktop, your USB ports are likely either on the front or back of your PC's tower.
3. Wait while your computer automatically installs any software required to use the microphone. After completion, your computer will alert you that a new device has been installed.
Non-USB Microphones in Windows XP
4. Locate your computer's microphone jack. With laptops it's typically on one of the sides, next to the headphone jack. Desktop microphone jacks are almost always located on the back of the computer tower. Once located, plug your microphone in.
5. Turn your computer on and wait until your operating system loads. Click "Start" and "Control Panel." Choose "Speech" and click the "Speech Recognition" tab before selecting "Audio Input" and "Properties" and, under your new microphone, click "Use this audio input line."
6. Go back to the "Control Panel" and select "Sounds and Audio Devices." In the new window, select the "Voice" tab and make sure the default device is your new microphone. From here you can also adjust volume by clicking the "Volume" button.
Non-USB Microphones in Windows Vista or Newer
7. Plug the microphone into the computer's microphone jack. Turn the computer on and wait while your operating system loads.
8. Click the Start Orb and type "sound" into the search box and click the result labeled "Sound." Click the "Recording" tab and look for your new microphone.
9. Select the new microphone from the list and click "Set Default" and "Apply." Click "Configure" to bring up "Speech Recognition Options". From here, click "Setup a microphone" and follow the microphone setup wizards instructions, answering any questions it asks. Upon finishing the wizard, your microphone will be ready to use.
