Make Your Laptop Wirelessn Compatible

Upgrade the speed of the wireless connection on your laptop.

Upgrade your laptop wireless connection to Wireless-N compatibility with the integration of a wireless network adapter. Older laptop models with built-in Wireless-G compatibility can utilize Wireless-N function by disabling the built-in wireless feature on the laptop. Wireless-N network adapters are available in a variety of styles, most commonly the compact USB adapter.

Instructions

1. If built-in wireless is available on your laptop, disable this feature. Typically, a switch or button is located on the laptop which turns the built-in wireless on or off. Consult the owner's manual for your laptop for more information on disable the built in wireless capabilities.

2. Insert the Wireless-N USB adapter into an available USB port located on your laptop.

3. Windows operating systems will alert you when the USB adapter has been installed and is ready for use. Typically an LED light located on the USB network adapter will flash signaling connection to a wireless network if one is within range and has been configured correctly.

4. Access the wireless manager located in the lower right hand corner of your computer screen. The wireless manager is typically identified by staggered bars which denote the strength of your wireless signal. If the staggered bars have an "X" located on top of them then no wireless connection is available.

5. Open the wireless manager by clicking on the staggered bar icon and choosing "View Wireless Networks." The wireless manager will open in a window on your screen to show any wireless networks in range of your laptop. Connect to an available network by selecting it from the list of networks within range. Input the correct security information to gain access to the network. Choose the option to remember the network settings for future network connection.
