Treat Arthritis After Gastric Bypass

Obesity is caused by an excessive amount of body fat and it is clinically defined as having a body mass index greater than 30 or being over 100 pounds overweight, according to the University of Maryland. Gastric bypass surgery is when a surgeon divides the stomach and creates a small pouch which dramatically reduces the amount of food the stomach can contain at one point. The John Hopkins Arthritis Center states that body weight directly affects joint health and excessive body weight can trigger arthritis symptoms or make these symptoms worse. After gastric bypass surgery, certain home remedies can be performed to help reduce arthritis pain; however, always speak with your doctor prior to ingesting any herbal supplement, especially after gastric bypass.

Instructions

1. Apply a generous amount of capsaicin cream directly onto the areas of the body that are suffering from arthritis symptoms. Make sure that the capsaicin cream that is purchased contains at least 0.075 percent capsaicin. Capsaicin cream is derived from cayenne pepper. This compound is the main active ingredient within cayenne that provides its medicinal qualities. When capsaicin is applied to the skin, it immediately begins to decrease the amount of pain within the applied area as it counterbalances the effects of the chemical that transmits pain signals to the brain, according to the University of Maryland.

2. Consume between 250 to 500 mg of green tea extract in capsule form with five to eight ounces of water for arthritis relief. Green tea has been used for nearly half-a-million years, according to the University of Maryland, and its active compounds of polyphenols and catechins provide its medicinal qualities. These compounds work with the body to reduce inflammation of joints as well as introduce a high concentration of antioxidants into the body.

3. Take 400 to 600 mg of turmeric powder capsules three times per day to treat arthritis inflammation and pain. The active ingredient within turmeric powder is curcumin, which works with the body to help reduce inflammation as well as treating various digestive issues, thus this herb is considered generally safe to consume after gastric bypass surgery. Curcumin also contains a high concentration of antioxidants to support the immune system and reduce free radicals within the body.
