Find Out Why I Can't Gain Weight


Each year Americans spend millions of dollars trying to lose weight. However, there are some people who have the reverse problem, and they have difficulty gaining weight. Athletes, such as weight lifters, might go on an active weight gaining regime, where they consume high calorie beverages and meals. When they are unable to obtain the desired results, it is necessary to determine why they are not gaining. Even the non-athlete may have difficulty maintaining a healthy weight and will need to uncover the reason.


Instructions


1. Have a physical to determine your overall medical condition. Some diseases or conditions--such as hyperthyroidism, cancer and diabetes--can make it difficult to gain weight or can increase weight loss.


2. Review any medications you are taking. Some prescription and non-prescription medications can interfere with weight gain. Consult with your pharmacist or physician about possible side effects associated with the drugs you are taking.


3. Consider your mental health. If you are experiencing stress or depression, this can affect your weight loss and gain.


4. Evaluate your average calorie intake and level of exercise. It is possible you are burning more or the same amount of calories that you are consuming. Compare the amount of calories you consume each day with the amount of calories you burn each day.


5. Keep a food diary to determine if you are eating as much as you think. If you have been experiencing dental problems, or nausea, perhaps you are not consuming as many calories as you believe.
