Find A Medicaid Provider

Find a Medicaid Provider

Medicaid health insurance coverage is available for low-income individuals. The government-funded program makes health care available to those who cannot afford it otherwise. Each state has its own Medicaid program and different requirements for eligibility, and finding a Medicaid provider can often be a challenge. You can call doctors in your area to ask if they accept Medicaid, but that can be quite time-consuming. Fortunately, there are easier methods to find doctors who accept Medicaid.

Instructions

1. Visit your state's Medicaid website. Your state's Medicaid website can provide you with contact numbers. If the information is not published on the site, call the main number to request that a provider list be mailed to you.

2. Call your local Medicaid office. The state typically divides Medicaid offices based on district or county. The state website should have your local office's contact information. You can also contact your local health department or social service agency for provider information.

3. Call the number on your insurance card. Medicaid may require you to pick a Medicaid HMO plan such as Wellcare or United Healthcare. When you are enrolled in the plan, you will typically receive a welcome packet, which will include a provider list.

4. Visit the Medicare website at medicare.gov for a directory list in your area. Based on your zip code, you can filter search results for physicians who accept Medicare. Medicare providers often accept Medicaid patients, as well. Contact the doctor's office prior to making an appointment, to verify that Medicaid is accepted.
