Find A Medicaid Physician

Medicaid is a federal and state government program which provides medical insurance to those who are impoverished or elderly. The number of physicians who accept Medicaid varies from state to state, so finding one may be easy for one person but difficult for another.

Instructions

1. Contact your Medicaid provider by locating the number on the back of your insurance card. Request a book listing the physicians who accept Medicaid. It should be sent through the mail. Postage will be paid by the sender and there is no fee for the booklet. These books provide Medicaid patients with physicians, dentists and more.

2. Visit the Medicaid website (see Resources). It has a directory where you can find physicians in your area who are accepting Medicaid.

3. Find the link for your state's Medicaid program. These can be found through the Government Benefits website (see Resources). The program page for your state will provide a list and details of physicians in your area accepting Medicaid.

4. Visit your local health department or social service agency in order to request information on physicians accepting Medicaid. It may be able to refer you to an office or provide you with a pamphlet or more information on Medicaid physicians.

5. Call your current physician's office and ask whether he is accepting Medicaid.
