1. Ask friends and family that have hired mariachi bands for events for recommendations. Find out what they did or did not like about each band and write down band phone numbers.
2. Browse entertainment event and mariachi band websites for mariachi bands near you, including any bands recommended by relatives and friends. Some sites list bands by state while others ask you to type in your city, state or zip code to find mariachi bands in your area. Such sites may also provide complete press kits for each band, including a band bio, events in which the band specializes, pay range, audio and video samples, location and reviews, allowing you to further research a band before booking.
3. Contact your chosen band through the website the band is listed under or by calling the band or band manager directly. Discuss the type of event you are holding and ask questions you might have regarding price, special perks, time, date and any other questions you need answered.
4. Draw up a written contract stating the time and date of the event, how long the band will perform, a pay schedule or payment date, break times for the band and any other information you would like included. Give a copy of the contract to the band manager to look over and discuss any questions the manager might have for you. Sign the contract, have the manager sign the contract and make copies for you and the band. This can be done by meeting with the manager personally or over email.
5. Contact the band a few days prior to your event to confirm the date and time.
