Set Up an iMac Computer at Home
The iMac is a sleek, high-performance desktop computer designed by Apple Inc. The iMac has gained a lot of exposure over the years, and it's so popular that you will find it in TV shows like "Entourage," innovative commercials and blockbuster movies. If you have purchased your first new iMac desktop computer and you are ready to set it up at home, here are a few tips to get you on your way.
Instructions
1. Remove your iMac from its box and place the components on a clean, dry surface to help you identify each part. They will include the following:
Keyboard
Mouse
Cleaning cloth
Manual
Mac OS X CDs and software license agreement
Apple remote
2. Place your iMac on top of your computer desk. Remove the foam cover from the computer screen. Plug one end of the power cord into the back of your iMac computer and the other end into an electrical outlet. Connect the keyboard and the mouse to the back of your iMac computer using the USB ports.
3. Turn on your iMac computer and select the language in which you want to conduct the registration process. The message on the screen will guide you through the process. For example, the first screen will ask you to choose a country. The next screen will ask you to select a keyboard layout, such as U.S. or Canadian English. If you currently own a Mac, you can transfer your information from your old computer to your new iMac.
4. Select your Internet server. If you have wireless Internet, you will need to select your wireless server from the list that will appear on the screen, and enter your password. If you have an iTunes account, you will need to enter your iTunes email address and password.
5. Enter your personal information, such as your name, address, e-ail address and phone number. If you have an iTunes account, your personal information will automatically be filled in at this part of the registration.
6. Set up your user account by filling in the following information: your name, your Short Name (this is for your home folder, and cannot be changed), your password and your password hint. Check your hair and makeup, because your picture is about to be taken for your account icon. The last part of the registration will offer you a free trial for "Mobile me." Make your selection, click on "Next" and your iMac registration will be complete.
7. Insert the OS X CD disc to begin the installation of the software. Simply follow the instructions on your computer screen and your software will be installed. To begin the installation of the OS X CD, you will need to enter the name and password you created earlier. The installation of this software will take about 2 hours to complete. Once it is complete, your iMac is ready to be used.
