Find Medicare Doctors

Finding a Medicare-participating doctor is easy.

Searching for the right physician can be quite a task, but searching for one who participates in Medicare is much easier. Medicare makes it very easy for its subscribers to locate services, including hospitals, nursing homes, home health care and, of course, private primary care physicians.

Instructions

1. Visit Medicare's online physician directory. It is the easiest way to go about your search. Enter your location, desired radius and even the specialty you are looking for, and you will instantly receive a list of participating area Medicare providers.

2. Print directory results using the site's print feature. This allows you to print either your entire list of results or specific pages with detailed information about each provider.

3. Call the Center for Medicare Services at 800-MEDICARE or 800-633-4227 to get assistance in locating a nearby physician. Service agents can also help with identifying hospitals, nursing homes, home health care agencies, medical equipment providers and other Medicare-covered practitioners and services.

4. Request a print directory of Medicare providers and services while on your phone call. CMS representatives can order Medicare publications for you and have them mailed to your home.

5. Contact the customer service line of your local hospital. In many cases, Medicare-participating hospitals, which are many, have connections in the community. In particular, gerontology and orthopedic departments usually work closely with Medicare-participating practitioners or may have Medicare physicians with hospital privileges.
