Know How Much Weight You Need To Lose

Numerous people battle the problem of excess weight. Sometimes it's difficult to know just how much weight you should lose. A scientific formula tells you how much weight you need to lose in order to be in a healthy weight range. This method uses the formula for Body Mass Index (BMI). The range for "normal" weight according to the BMI is 18.5 to 24.9. You can figure out what weight you should be by using a variation of this simple formula.

Instructions

How Much Weight Should You Lose?

1. Square your height in inches; this means that you multiply the number times itself. For instance, if you are 65 inches tall, you would do the following:

65 x 65 = 4,225

This will be value "A."

2. Multiply value A by the number 18.5. In this example, you would perform this function:

4225 x 18.5 = 78,162.5

This will be value "B."

3. Divide value B by the number 703 in order to find the lighter end of the healthy weight range for your height.

78,162.5 / 703 = 111.18

Round to 111 (pounds).

4. In order to find the heavier end of your "normal" weight range, perform a very similar equation as before, but this time use 24.9 instead of 18.5 in step 2. In this example, the computation would look like this:

65 x 65 = 4225

4225 x 24.9 = 105,202.5

105,202.5 / 703 = 149.65

Round to 150 (pounds).

5. The normal weight range for a person of 65 inches is 111 to 150 pounds. In order to find out how much you need to lose, subtract 150 and 111 from your current weight. So, if you are 65 inches tall and weigh 165 pounds, you would follow this equation:

165 - 150 = 15

165 - 111 = 54

Therefore, you need to lose between 15 and 54 pounds in order to be in the normal weight range, according to the BMI categories.
