Make A Crochet Blanket

Crocheting a blanket is a fun project that keeps your fingers nimble.


There was a day when blankets were exclusively made by hand. Today, blankets are a dime a dozen and widely available at many stores. However, there is still something truly unique about a handmade blanket. If you know crochet, you can use your talent to create a soft and cozy crocheted blanket. Give this beautiful handiwork away for a gift or keep it for yourself. Either way, this easy to make crocheted masterpiece will leave you wanting to make more.


Instructions


Row 1


1. Make a slip knot in the end of the light and lofty yarn in the dark color. Insert your crochet hook into the slipknot and make 124 chain stitches.


2. Make a treble crochet stitch in the sixth chain from the hook. Make a chain stitch, skip one stitch, then treble crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this same process again three times.


3. Make a chain stitch and skip one stitch. Make a treble crochet and chain three. Make a treble crochet in the same stitch as the last treble crochet. Make a chain stitch and skip the next chain. Treble crochet in the next chain. Repeat this same process again three times.


4. Chain one stitch and skip the next chain stitch. Treble crochet two chain stitches together.


5. Repeat Step 3, then repeat Step 4. This completes the first row of the blanket.


Row 2


6. Make four chain stitches and turn in the opposite direction. Skip the first chain and treble crochet in the first treble crochet.


7. Make a chain stitch then treble crochet into the next treble crochet. Repeat this process over three times.


8. Make two treble crochets and chain three stitches. Make two more treble crochets in the next stitch then chain three.


9. Treble crochet in the next two stitches, then chain one. Repeat this process three times.


10. Treble crochet two together over the next five stitches. Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4.


11. Repeat Step 5. Treble crochet two together over the next three stitches. This is the end of row 2.


Row 3


12. Cast off of the dark color; on to the lighter color of light and lofty yarn. Chain four and turn in the opposite direction.


13. Skip the first two treble crochets and treble crochet in the next treble. Chain one stitch. Repeat this process again four times.


14. Treble crochet, chain three and treble crochet again in the next space. Make one chain stitch.


15. Treble crochet in the next treble and chain one stitch. Skip the next treble. Repeat this process over 3 times.


16. Treble crochet two together over the next five stitches. Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4.


17.Repeat Step 5. Treble crochet two together over the last three stitches in this row.


Finishing


18. Repeat rows 2 and 3 again, until the blanket, reaches the desired length. Change colors every other row or as desired.


19. Crochet an edge around the blanket by crocheting one single crochet in each stitch around. Make three single crochets in each corner.


20. Fasten off yarn. Use a yarn needle to weave in all ends of loose yarn where you changed yarn color.
