Make A Bella Band

The Bella Band is a wildly popular maternity product used by women during, as well as after, pregnancy. The Bella Band allows the woman to keep wearing her favorite pants by keeping them unbuttoned and placing the band over the waistline to keep the pants in place. Instead of paying upwards of $25 for a Bella Band, you can also make your own using a sewing machine and an old tube top.

Instructions

1. Measure your waistline. Take the measurement around the hips since it will not fit correctly if you measure around the middle of your pregnant belly. It should be worn snugly in order to keep your pants from falling.

2. Find an old tube top or another type of stretchy tank. A shirt manufactured from spandex would work especially well for this project. Cut 4 to 6 inches off the bottom depending on the length of the shirt.

3. Cut the loop of the top at one of the creases. Measure to what your waist measurement is and cut there as well. In order to accommodate the seam, you should leave about 1/2-inch.

4. Fold back the cut edge approximately ¼-inch and use a pin to secure it. Use a sewing machine to sew through the middle of the fold. Once finished, fold it over again and pin.

5. Sew in the same line as the first seam that you made and then line up the two sides together. Use a pin to keep them in place as you sew a straight stitch. Turn the fabric inside out to reveal your finished pregnancy Bella Band. It will look small, but you want it to fit snugly in order to be worn under your belly and hold up your pants.
