Make A Pregnancy Costume

Making a pregnancy costume can create the illusion of real pregnancy.

Making a pregnancy costume can be fairly simple and can make it seem like you're really pregnant. Whether you want to trick a friend, scare your boyfriend to death, fool your parents and scare them or make a great Halloween costume, making a fake pregnant belly costume can be loads of fun. Anyone with basic sewing skills can pull off making a fake pregnant belly costume. With a few materials on hand, making a pregnancy costume that looks completely believable isn't hard at all.

Instructions

1. Buy some soft or spongy foam from a local arts and crafts store. Polyfill is a commonly used filler for the fake pregnant bellies. Soft cotton from a pillow may also work well. Cut up the foam to get it down to the size that best suits you. For smaller women, smaller sized foam is best to make the belly look believable.

2. Buy some soft and stretchy fabric to put over the foam. Place the material around the foam so that it's completely covered. Sew the open sides so that the foam is sewed inside of the fabric. Thread your needle and sew elastic bands to the sides of the belly so that you'll be able to strap the elastic around your body securely. It's optional to make a strap to go around your neck; however, some of the premade bellies have straps that go around the neck to keep the belly from sliding down.

3. Wrap an ace bandage around the upper and lower parts of the belly to give it a flatter look and to secure the top and bottom of the belly. If there are any kinks in the foam, wrap another bandage around the entire belly to smooth out the parts that look uneven. You can adjust the size of the belly by wearing tighter or looser clothing.

4. Find or purchase a maternity shirt that can slide easily over the belly to complete the costume. Since pregnant women are supposed to wear flat shoes, use flat sandals, sneakers or flat dress shoes to complete the costume.
