Lose 100 Pounds Without Surgery

With hard work and planning, you can lose 100 lbs. without surgery.

Probably one of the most difficult parts about getting into shape is realizing that you need to get into shape. This can be a humbling discovery, especially if you've been living with unhealthy weight for a long time. Once you've decided you need to lose a significant amount (i.e., 100 lbs.) of weight, it's time to make a plan to get into shape. With some effort, you can drop the weight and get healthy without surgery.

Instructions

1. Record your eating habits in a journal. Look for patterns, especially times or circumstances in which you tend to overeat. A journal can also help you identify emotional or psychological triggers that make you feel compelled to eat. If you've got 100 lbs. of weight to lose, chances are your eating habits are linked to some sort of psychological stress or unmet need.

2. Using your journal, come up with alternative ways to deal with stress when it arises. Take a walk around the block, meditate, take deep breaths, or call a trusted friend to talk. If you absolutely have to snack, choose healthy foods like carrots and apples.

3. Use a body mass index (BMI) chart to determine your ideal weight for your height. This will help you set a healthy goal weight to achieve. Depending on your activity level, you may then also set a time frame by which you want to lose the weight. Remember, you didn't gain the weight overnight, and you won't lose it overnight, either. Give yourself time.

4. Modify your diet to include more foods that are rich in fiber, protein and vitamins. Cut out foods that are high in simple sugars and carbohydrates. Eat fruit for dessert instead of pastries or cookies.

5. Get started on a regular exercise program. If you've got 100 lbs. to lose, you'll want to begin slowly. Start with simple activities like climbing stairs, walking around the block, raking leaves and dancing. Listen to music to help get you motivated and have fun while you're working out. As your fitness improves, increase your activity level to include running, swimming, tennis and cycling.
