Talk To A Doctor About Weight Loss

Talk to a Doctor About Weight Loss

After trying to lose weight with no success, you might decide you need to talk with your doctor to see what weight loss strategies you are missing. The white coats they wear sometimes make patients feel inadequate, however your doctor is the best person to talk to about your health and weight loss issues.

Instructions

1. Make an appointment with your internist or family physician. While you are waiting for the appointment, get your thoughts together. Make notes on what you want to accomplish through weight loss and list any fears you have.

2. Tell your doctor up front that you want to discuss your need for weight loss. Many times, doctors shy away from telling patients they need to lose weight.

3. Give the doctor a list of goals you have. Tell your doctor how much weight you want to lose each week. He will advise you if your expectations for weight loss are unrealistic or unhealthy.

4. Discuss the importance of your body mass index, diet plan and exercise program. Ask about hazards associated with not following the diet and exercise plans. You will also want to know what waist circumference you should shoot for.

5. Keep a food diary to show your doctor. Ask for suggested changes and question their importance if you do not understand.

6. Choose and enlist members of your support group. The people closest to you can be your biggest help. However, if someone is not a help, but rather a hindrance, do not dwell on their comments.
