Work A Rock Band Microphone

Rock Band is a video game that allows users to play drums and guitars that are specially designed for the game. Players also have the option of singing the songs that are loaded onto Rock Band by using a USB microphone. However, some people have difficulty setting up and using their Rock Band microphone at first. This is partly because the directions in the Rock Band manual are somewhat unclear when it comes to using the mic.

Instructions

1. Plug a standard controller into the "Player 1" port of the game system. You need a regular controller to use the Rock Band microphone, since the microphone has no buttons on it.

2. Plug the Rock Band microphone into the game system. If you own an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3, you can plug the Rock Band USB microphone directly into one of the USB ports on the system. Otherwise, you will need to plug the microphone into a USB hub (see Resources). Once you have done this, plug the hub into the game system.

3. Turn on Rock Band.

4. Use the controller to select a game mode. If you're playing by yourself, for example, choose "Solo Tour."

5. Use the controller to choose the song you want to sing, and the playing difficulty. Then press "Start"; the song will begin to load. While it is loading, put down the controller and pick up the Rock Band microphone.

6. Hold the head of the microphone about 2 to 3 inches away from your mouth. Doing so ensures that the game will pick up each lyric you sing into the microphone.

7. Look for the long box that runs horizontally on the screen. The song lyrics will scroll from right to left in this box. A vertical line will run from the top to the bottom of the box, on its left side.

8. Notice the lyrics and the audio lines that appear above them as both begin scrolling across your TV screen. The lines will direct you in how high or low you should sing that particular lyric.

9. Begin singing as the lyrics cross the vertical line in the box. Begin singing a word as the first letter touches the vertical line, and finish singing that word once the tail end of the final letter of the word has crossed the vertical line. Continue doing this for every word in the song.

10. Look for unfilled circles to scroll through the box on the screen. The circles will represent either hand claps, a tambourine or another hand-held instrument. When these circles get to the vertical line, tap the head of the controller to receive more points.
