Treat Raised Scars

Various creams and treatments can eliminate raised scars.

A hydrotropic or raised scar usually occurs after a surgery or accident when a wound on the skin is trying to heal. Although many scars eventually heal and disappear, raised scars are abnormal and can sometimes be disfiguring. This can cause a loss in self-confidence as well as an unflattering mark on the skin. Silicone gel, corticoid treatments and over-the-counter creams can help to fade and even remove raised scars while also speeding the healing process. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Apply an over-the-counter cream that contains polyethylene glycols or polymethacrylates. These products will help the scar to fade. Apply the cream at least twice a day for several weeks to see results.

2. Rub the scar with petroleum jelly three to four times a day. This type of massage will help to increase the circulation in your skin and cause blood and nutrients to move towards the scar.

3. Visit your dermatologist and ask for cortisone injections, a chemical peel or laser treatments. These treatments will help shrink the appearance of the scar and may even remove the scar completely.

4. Buy liquid Vitamin E or poke a hole in a Vitamin E capsule. Apply the liquid to the scar. Vitamin E will aid in the process of healing the skin.

5. Apply a silicone gel to the scar twice a day. This technique can take six months or more to be effective at diminishing the appearance of raised scars.
