Make A Wavy Blanket With Crochet

Waves add interest and pattern to a crocheted blanket.

A wavy blanket is ideal if you are fairly new to crocheting but want to make a blanket with a fun pattern. Single crochet and double crochet are the only stitches necessary to complete this blanket, but the pattern of the finished project gives the illusion of being much more complex.

Instructions

1. Create a loop to begin the first row and crochet the thread end into the first stitches. Using the first color, make three double crochet stitches followed by three single crochet stitches. Make three more double crochet stitches and three more single crochet stitches, and repeat this pattern to the desired width of the blanket. End the row with three double crochet stitches.

2. Turn and stitch three double crochet stitches into the last three stitches of the first row. Then stitch three single crochet stitches into the next three stitches of the first row. Repeat this process until you reach the end of the first row. Tie off the thread and cut it, leaving two inches of yarn to thread into the blanket.

3. Make a loop in the end of the second color to start the third row. Stitch three single crochet stitches followed by three double crochet stitches, and repeat the pattern to the end of the row. Turn and make three single crochet stitches in the last three stitches of the third row. Continue the pattern to the end of the row, tie off the thread and cut.

4. Make a loop in the end of the third color to start the fifth row. Stitch three double crochet stitches followed by three single crochet stitches, and repeat the pattern to the end of the row. Turn and make three double crochet stitches in the last three stitches of the fourth row. Continue the pattern to the end of the row, tie off the thread and cut. You will see that the pattern of alternating single and double crochet stitches is creating waves from each color.

5. Repeat the process for the fourth color. You can then continue alternating colors every two rows or make some rows thicker than others, with four or six rows. It must always be an even number in order for the wave pattern to hold.

6. Continue crocheting rows until the blanket is the desired length.
