Instructions
1. Run your antivirus software to make sure your screen is not being affected by a computer virus. Sometimes, viruses can distort the colors and images on the monitor's display. If you find that you are infected, immediately quarantine and delete the virus.
2. Adjust the screen's contrast if the imagery is too dark or too light. Most computer keyboards have a button to turn the contrast up and another to turn it down. These buttons are located on the top row and will have an "F" and then a number next to it. On a Mac, it will usually be F1 and F2. On a PC, the buttons will be F9 and F10. Look for a picture that looks like the sun on the button and push it along with the "Function" key to adjust the contrast. All computer models vary; check your owner's model.
3. Change the position of the monitor if the display is not steady. You may be experiencing interference from other nearby machinery and a change of location could remove the interference.
4. Fix a flickering computer screen by adjusting the setting of the refresh rate. Go into your "Start" menu by pushing a button on your monitor. Then navigate to the settings button and then the "Monitor" tab. Change the refresh rate to "72 Hz." All monitors vary in their operation, so be sure to check your owner's manual.
5. Move any magnetic devices away from your computer screen if you are experiencing dark spots. This includes speakers and USB modems.
