Make Fleece Lap Robes

Make Fleece Lap Robes

Lap robes, or small throw blankets, are customarily used to cover the lap and legs of someone to prevent chills. Lap robes are popular among senior citizens or other people who are sensitive to temperature changes, or persons confined to wheelchairs who may have blood circulation issues. Many people also like lap robes as a simple small blanket to use when reading or watching television. Making a simple lap robe from fleece fabric is easy, fun and requires no special sewing skills.

Instructions

1. Spread the fleece fabric out on the cutting board or mat.

2. Measure down the length of the fabric using the measuring tape. Mark a small line at the 36-inch mark.

3. Cut a straight line across the fabric using the mark as a guide. You should now have a piece of fleece that is approximately 36 inches long and 45 inches wide.

4. Even out the edges of the fleece if necessary so that they are straight.

5. Measure in 1/2 inch from the edges of all four sides of the fleece and mark with a pen. Use the ruler to draw a line down each side so that you have a guide that evenly marks 1/2 inch in from the edge.

6. Cut even strips, about 1/2 inch wide, in from the outer edge to the line using the scissors. This creates a "fringe" all along the edges of the lap robe and gives it a finished look.
