Maternity clothes are necessary at some point in every woman's pregnancy as her belly expands and pants no longer fit the same way. Jeans can be difficult to fit because they are made to fit an exact shape, and while pregnant, the standard sizes of women's clothes just don't fit. Specialized maternity clothes tend to be very expensive. You can make your own maternity jeans. It's easy because all you need are your old jeans and some scrap material plus sewing items. You will save a ton of money, have jeans that fit you just right and be able to customize your clothes the way you want.
Instructions
1. Find a pair of loose-fitting jeans that you like. Use a seam ripper to remove the seams of the zipper. Take the zipper out of the pants completely.
2. Thread the sewing machine with strong cotton thread. Using a simple stitch, sew the fly of the pants from the bottom to the top of the waistband. Sew the fly completely shut.
3. Lay the jeans flat. Measure down two and a half inches from the top of the waistband in the center of the pants. Make a mark with a fabric pencil. Create an upward sloping line on either side to the sides of the pants. Make the lines end at the waistband, which should be about an inch down. On the back side of the pants, just draw directly under the bottom of the waistband.
4. Carefully cut along the lines drawn using the fabric pencil. Measure all the way around the waistband. Measure a piece of stretchy cotton to be of the same measurement. Fold the stretchy cotton in half so it is double-layered but still of the same length.
5. Sew the stretchy cotton band to the jeans waistband. Fold down the stretchy cotton as you desire.
