Oranges are good to eat...but most people don't want their hair to have such a brassy tone.
Brassy orange hair is a common problem you may face during attempts to bleach your hair or dye your hair red. While you may be tempted to dye or bleach your hair again to eliminate the problem, that could damage your hair or leave you with an even less attractive color. Instead of attempting to cover the brassy orange color, neutralize the offending shade and avoid the damage caused by dyeing your hair repeatedly. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Purchase blue hair toner and 20 volume developer from a beauty supply store. Make sure that you are purchasing blue toner rather than blue hair dye.
2. Mix equal parts of the toner and developer together in a small bowl or in a clean, empty applicator bottle. You need enough of this mixture to completely cover your hair, just as you would if you were dyeing it.
3. Apply the toner mixture to your hair, starting at your roots, with a tint brush or the applicator bottle. Keep applying it until all your roots are covered and then continue to cover the rest of your hair. Set a timer for 5 minutes when you're finished.
4. Wipe the toner mixture off a small section of your hair with a damp washcloth. Dry this section of hair as much as possible with a dry washcloth and inspect the color. Keep in mind that the color will appear darker than it actually is because your hair is damp. Shine a bright light from a flashlight or lamp directly onto your hair to help you determine if the brassy orange shade has been eliminated. If your hair still appears too orange, reapply the toner and set the timer for another five minutes. Continue to check your hair every five minutes until the brassiness has been eliminated but don't leave the toner on your hair for longer than 30 minutes.
5. Rinse your hair in cool running water to remove all the toner mixture.
6. Apply conditioner to your hair and rinse and dry as you would normally. Your hair may be tangled and difficult to comb if you don't apply conditioner after the toning process.
