The World Wide Web can be a frustrating place with a slow internet connection.
A sluggish Internet connection can be a big headache. There are several workarounds that you can use to speed up your data connection. If you are having trouble with a slow connection, try to speed it up.
Instructions
1. Configure your browser to block Flash or Javascript content on websites. These types of web content require larger amounts of graphics memory and CPU power than would a normal website. If you block these applications, your browser should load faster.
2. Raise your browser's cache allotment. The cache is where your browser stores a snapshot of websites that you have visited, so that next time you visit it takes less time to load the page. Through your browser settings, you can permanently resize the cache allotment to allow more storage. Sometimes purging the cache can also be helpful.
3. Download a different Internet browser. There are many free browsers available out there that specialize in loading pages faster. Experiment with different browsers until you find a comfortable mix of speed, options and ease of use.
4. Upgrade your ISP service. If you are using a dial-up modem, ensure that you are using a 56K modem, the fastest available. If you are using high-speed access such as DSL or cable modem, you may be able to upgrade to a faster tier. Technology is constantly changing, and higher speeds can become available in your area without your even knowing. Call your ISP and see if you are able to upgrade to a higher speed. You can test your actual speed with the speed test tool listed in the Resources section.
5. Call your ISP to make sure that your modem is configured correctly. An improper connection can sometimes function partially, giving you a less than ideal Internet connection. Your Internet service provider can instruct you on the proper way to link your components for optimum speed.
